by a car, the driver nowhere to be found. good evening, i'm maureen umeh. >> i'm will thomas of the the hunt is on now at carol avenue in silver spring. tonight we learned what the victim was doing when the car hit her and then took off. matt aklin joins us live. >> reporter: we took the family members off the camera who had just visited her in the hospital. they say she did not look good. doctors are not sure if she will recover. 24-year-old daniela was born in guatemala. most recently she lived and worked about a block from where she was hit around 8:00 saturday night. she was struck a few feet away from her boyfriend's home. >> i heard a thump. it sounded like a car hit another car. >> montgomery county police are doing all they can to find the driver of what they believe was a small dark sedan, possibly a honda. they say the force of the impact caused some damage and even a piece of evidence was left behind. >> it did leave the right-hand side exterior passenger mirror on the scene after it struck her. >> neighbors say this narrow stretch of carol avenue can be hazardous.

-knit community is gathering to remember her and two little boys. i'm maureen umeh. >> i'm will thomas. the police watched her hand her children out of the second- story window one-by-one and went back inside for the last two boys and they never made it out alive and roz plater is live where the fire broke out. >> reporter: this is a community that is still hurting, coming together by the dozens to honor the lines and to say thank you to the man who held out his arms to catch the children that the desperate mother tossed to safety. >> this is not physical healing tonight but emotional healing. >> reporter: it's a measure of how much the young family was loved and how many here in the lorton community are suffering. 24-year-old allie anderson and her sons, 5-year-old solmon and 3-year-old alphonso were all lost in a devastating fire. >> she seemed like the most loving, wonderful mother and -- and her kids are like her. beautiful family and good people. >> they made a big impression on everybody. they were always out here playing with my son and playing with all the kids riding bikes. >> reporter:

. >>> but we begin with this shocking scene. hanks thanks for joining us. i'm maureen umeh. >> and i'm laura evans. it was just over 24 hours ago this car jumped off the road, hit two women and ran right into a d.c. restaurant and the driver behind the wheel was way over the legal limit. fox 5's wisdom martin is live to start us off tonight. >> reporter: that car gan, but the mess remains in front of the is gone, but the mess remains in front of the restaurant. the two women who were hit remain in the hospital fighting for their lives and the driver faces serious charges of driving while intoxicated and aggravated assault. according to charging documents, chamica adams was intoxicated when she hit julie backliner, a student at johns hopkins and melissa basque before crashing into a restaurant. her blood alcohol content was .18, more than two times the legal limit. d.c. police say 23-year-old adams seen here in handcuffs was driving a 2007 dodge charger southbound on 18th street when she hit two women standing on a traffic island. police say adams continued across florida avenue, jumped the c
